Ohio County Jail: Which Mailing Address to Use (PO Box vs. Hartford street address)
Ohio County Jail uses two different mailing addresses depending on what you're sending. Use the wrong one, and your mail gets rejected or returned.
Ohio County Jail changed how it routes mail starting April 24, 2023. Since that date, all inmate mail has to go to the specific address the jail designates for that type of mail. Send it somewhere else, and the jail will reject it.
Note: Certified mail requiring an inmate signature gets returned to the sender. Mail with postage due is also returned.
For regular letters, cards, and other standard (non-legal) mail from friends and family, use the PO Box in Highland Heights. Include the inmate's name and inmate ID, then send it to: Ohio County Jail, KY, PO Box 76550, Highland Heights, KY 41076.
Reminder: Since April 24, 2023, mail sent to any address other than the jail's specified mailing addresses will be rejected.
Legal mail works differently. Mail from lawyers or other legal representation needs the inmate's name and inmate ID, and it must go to the jail's street address: Ohio County Jail, KY, 108 East Washington Street, Hartford, KY 42347.
Money orders also go to the Hartford street address, not the Highland Heights PO Box. Send them to 108 East Washington Street, Hartford, KY 42347 so they reach the right place for processing.
Warning: If legal mail is not sent to 108 East Washington Street in Hartford, it will be returned to the sender.
Send mail to the wrong address and you're looking at delays at best, a return or rejection at worst. The jail rejects anything that shows up at an address other than the ones it specifies. Legal mail sent anywhere other than 108 East Washington Street in Hartford gets returned to sender.
Two common reasons mail gets returned are easy to overlook. Certified mail requiring an inmate signature is returned to sender, and any mail with postage due is returned as well. If either happens, fix the issue (switch to regular delivery and make sure postage is fully paid), then resend to the correct address for the type of mail you're sending.
