Visitation
Visitation at the Rhode Island Department of Corrections is a privilege. RIDOC can approve, deny, suspend, or revoke visits for security or policy reasons. Each facility warden sets visiting days, hours, visit length, weekly limits, and how many people can visit at once. Statewide policy requires at least three visiting periods per week of at least 1½ hours for inmates not on Administrative Restricted Status. Visitors generally need approval and must pass background checks before being added to an inmate's visiting list. Minors need parental or guardian consent and must be accompanied by an adult. Facilities post visiting rules and the Visitor Dress Code in English and Spanish. As for medications, nitroglycerin is the only visitor medication allowed into visits. Staff will not secure other medications, though procedures exist for logging and emergency access.

Rhode Island DOC (RIDOC) accepts inmate money deposits through AccessCorrections (online and by phone), CashPayToday, lobby kiosks, or in person at the Inmate Accounts Office. JPay online deposits are no longer accepted. You'll need a valid photo ID for in-person or vendor-assisted deposits. RIDOC also generally expects the depositor to be on the inmate's visiting list, but there's a 30-day grace period so someone can deposit while the inmate adds visitors. Funds go into the inmate's trust (commissary) account for commissary purchases and authorized charges. Include the inmate's full name and ID to avoid delays. Posting time varies, but electronic deposits often post quickly, sometimes within a day.
