How to Mail a Letter or Approved Item to an ICE Detainee in Ste. Genevieve

For ordinary mail to an ICE detainee, use the detainee-mailing format below. The facility’s physical address spells out “Drive,” but its mailing instructions use “DR.” You must also include your name and return address on the letter or envelope.

  1. Write “Ste. Genevieve County Detention Center” on the first line
  2. Write “C/O” followed by the detainee’s name and the last four digits of the Administrative File Number, also called the A Number
  3. Write “5 Basler DR” on the next line
  4. Write “Ste. Genevieve, MO 63670” on the final line
  5. Add your name and return address to the letter or envelope

If you need information about an ICE detainee housed at the facility, you may call (573) 883-5820 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Have the detainee’s first, last and any hyphenated names, aliases, date of birth and country of birth ready.

The facility information was updated August 6, 2026.

Incoming mail for ICE detainees is screened for contraband. The delivering officer inspects it rather than reading it upon opening, and incoming mail is delivered to the detainee.

If the detainee leaves or transfers to another facility, only legal mail is forwarded. General correspondence is marked “Return to Sender” and returned to the post office.

The mailing address is not blanket permission to send a package. Contact the Kansas City, Missouri detained unit before sending one, and obtain the required ICE approval for travel or release items.

  1. Email CHI-ERO-Detained@ice.dhs.gov before sending a package
  2. For an item considered necessary solely for travel or release from ICE custody, obtain approval from the ICE Deportation Officer
  3. For a detainee being removed from the United States, follow the one-small-piece-of-luggage limit
  4. If the detainee does not already have baggage, obtain approval from the Supervisory Detention and Deportation Officer before sending or delivering one 40-pound bag

Electronic devices are not accepted for security reasons. This includes cell phones, electric razors, laptop computers and radios.
