Before You Drive to WRDCC: Required ID, Dress Code, Body Scanner, and What Not to Bring
Visiting someone at WRDCC goes smoother when you show up with the right ID, the right clothes, and nothing in your pockets that'll slow you down at security. Here's your quick
If you’re an adult visitor, bring a valid photo ID. A current driver’s license or a Department of Revenue ID card works. If you’re bringing a minor or you still need to complete the visitor application, use the Missouri DOC online visitor application for the official instructions and details - especially because minor visitor situations can have extra steps.
Visitor application: The Missouri DOC online visitor application is available at https://web.mo.gov/doc/pubVisit/.
Dress Code
- ✓ Shirts, blouses, or tops that don’t cover your chest, cleavage, back, and stomach
- ✓ Tops without sleeves that cover your shoulders
Plan on security starting as soon as you enter WRDCC grounds. You can be searched, and so can your packages, your children, and your vehicle. The simplest way to make this go quickly is to travel light and keep anything questionable out of the car entirely.
You’ll also go through a metal detector. Missouri DOC facilities use metal detectors, including WRDCC, so expect screening similar to what you’d see at a courthouse or airport checkpoint.
On top of that, anyone 18 or older is subject to the Intercept full-body scanner unless you have an approved exception, such as a verified medical condition or pregnancy. The scanner system uses your visitor ID number as your scanning ID number, so the information tied to your visitor record is what staff will use when you’re screened.
Warning: Under Missouri statute 217.360, bringing drugs, alcohol, firearms, or other prohibited articles into a correctional facility is a criminal offense, and violators may be prosecuted.
If you need somewhere to put small personal items, most institutions have small lockers available for things like a purse, wallet, or keys. I still recommend leaving as much as you can at home or locked in your vehicle so you aren’t juggling items at check-in.
If you’re already on the way and need a quick answer about what you can bring or how to handle a scanner exception, call WRDCC at (816) 387-2158.
WRDCC visiting hours are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday: 9:30am–1:30pm and 2:30pm–6:30pm.
