What You Can and Can't Mail to Someone at Will County ADF: Complete Prohibited-Items Checklist
Sending mail to someone at Will County Adult Detention Facility is straightforward—if you follow the rules. Use the checklist below to make sure your letter doesn't get returned, delayed, or sent to property.
All mail to Will County ADF must go through the United States Postal Service (USPS). You can't hand-deliver letters at the reception desk, even if you're already there for a visit. Everything needs to go through the standard screening process, so mail it.
Size limit: Envelopes may be no larger than 8.5 by 11 inches.
Every piece of incoming mail gets opened and searched for contraband before it reaches the person you're writing. That's why these rules are enforced strictly. Mailing contraband to an inmate is a crime - if you're unsure whether something's allowed, leave it out.
Prohibited Checklist
- ✓ Unused postage stamps, unused envelopes, or self-addressed/stamped envelopes
- ✓ Cash or checks
- ✓ Perfumed stationery or mail with an inappropriate substance in/on it
- ✓ Stickers or address label stickers
- ✓ Cardboard, laminated, or plastic-covered cards
- ✓ Phone cards or credit cards
- ✓ Gang-related correspondence, gang symbols, or gang signs
Watch out for these: Cash, checks, and anything gang-related are common reasons mail gets rejected. Gang-related content is treated as a serious security issue.
Photos are allowed, but they have to meet content rules. No nudity. Polaroids are specifically prohibited - stick with regular printed photos.
- ✓ Photos showing guns
- ✓ Photos showing gang signs or gang affiliation
- ✓ Photos showing drugs or depicting criminal acts
Books and periodicals come with extra restrictions. Hardcovers aren't allowed. Content-wise, anything containing pornography, frontal nudity, or sexual acts is prohibited. Same goes for materials about explosives, weapon construction, booby traps, or martial arts. Road maps, atlases, and newspapers of any kind are also off-limits.
Don't include unused stamps, unused envelopes, or self-addressed stamped envelopes. They won't be handed to the inmate - they'll either be returned to you or sent to the inmate's property.
Plenty of common add-ins get stopped too. Stickers, address labels, cardboard cards, laminated cards, and plastic-covered cards won't make it through. Phone cards and credit cards are also prohibited - they'll be returned or sent to property.
Keep it simple: No cash, no checks. Both are prohibited and will be returned or sent to property.
