What You Can and Can’t Mail to Someone at Will County ADF: Photos, Books, and Commonly Rejected Items
Mail rules at Will County Adult Detention Facility are strict. A small mistake can mean your letter or photos never make it through. Use the lists below to screen your mail before you send it.
All mail to Will County Adult Detention Facility must go through the United States Postal Service (USPS). You can't drop off letters or envelopes at the facility reception desk, even if you're local.
Note: All incoming mail is opened and searched for contraband. Mailing contraband to an inmate is a crime.
Envelopes sent to inmates can be no larger than 8.5 by 11 inches. Anything bigger won't make it through.
Photographs are allowed, but Polaroid photos are not. If you're printing pictures at a store or kiosk, choose standard photo prints instead of instant-style Polaroids.

Hardcover books are not allowed. Softcover books and periodicals also can't contain pornography, material on explosives or weapon construction, road maps or atlases, or newspapers. Content deemed a threat to safety can be rejected too. Keep choices straightforward and avoid anything that could be read as instructions, planning material, or a security risk.

Note: Mailing contraband to an inmate is a crime. If you're unsure about an item, leave it out and stick to plain paper mail.
If you include something that isn't allowed, the facility may return it to you or send it to the inmate's property. Items that commonly get flagged include unused stamps or envelopes (including self-addressed stamped envelopes), unused stationery or greeting cards, stickers, cardboard or laminated or plastic-covered cards, and anything with glue or tape.
- Use the right envelope size. Keep it at 8.5 by 11 inches or smaller.
- Mail only what the facility allows. Skip extras like stickers, unused stamps, and any glued or taped items.
- Assume anything questionable will not make it through. If an item fits the prohibited categories, it may be returned to you or placed into inmate property instead of being delivered as mail.
