Before you send a package to an ICE detainee, contact the Chicago detained unit at CHI-ERO-Detained@ice.dhs.gov. Items necessary solely for travel or release from agency custody require approval from the ICE Deportation Officer. Electronic devices are not accepted. A detainee being removed from the United States is allowed one small piece of luggage. If they do not already have baggage, you may send or deliver one 40-pound bag after receiving approval from the Supervisory Detention and Deportation Officer.

ICE detainees may seal outgoing letters and place them in the provided receptacle. Facility staff route outgoing mail to the postal office within 24 hours of receiving it, and mail pickup and delivery schedules are posted in the housing units. Detainees may purchase stamps, and generally there is no limit on correspondence they send at their own expense. Detainees with no means of financial support and no funds in their facility account receive a postage allowance at government expense.
