Mail and Communication Information at Kenton County Detention Center

For letters to an ICE detainee, address the envelope to Kenton County Jail / Detention Center, C/O the detainee’s name and the last four digits of their A Number, 3000 Decker Crane Ln., Covington, KY 41017. You must also include your name and address as the sender. Incoming mail is screened for contraband to protect facility safety. The delivering officer inspects the mail but does not read it upon opening. If the detainee leaves or transfers to another facility, only legal mail is forwarded. General correspondence is marked “Return to Sender” and returned to the post office.

Can I send a package to an ICE detainee?

Before you send a package to an ICE detainee, contact the Chicago detained unit at CHI-ERO-Detained@ice.dhs.gov. Items necessary solely for travel or release from agency custody require approval from the ICE Deportation Officer. Electronic devices are not accepted. A detainee being removed from the United States is allowed one small piece of luggage. If they do not already have baggage, you may send or deliver one 40-pound bag after receiving approval from the Supervisory Detention and Deportation Officer.

Can ICE detainees send letters from the facility?

ICE detainees may seal outgoing letters and place them in the provided receptacle. Facility staff route outgoing mail to the postal office within 24 hours of receiving it, and mail pickup and delivery schedules are posted in the housing units. Detainees may purchase stamps, and generally there is no limit on correspondence they send at their own expense. Detainees with no means of financial support and no funds in their facility account receive a postage allowance at government expense.

Call 859-363-2433 to leave an urgent message for an ICE detainee. Provide the detainee’s full name and alien registration number, along with your name and a telephone number where you can be reached. The detainee will be given your message.
