How to Send Mail and Publications to Lew Sterrett Justice Center
You can use the correct address for personal correspondence, legal mail and publisher-shipped reading material. Personal letters and postcards go to a Florida processing center, while legal mail and publications go to a Dallas post-office box.
Lew Sterrett Justice Center accepts envelopes and pre-metered postcards. Every postcard or envelope must show your full name and return address. Blue or black ink is recommended. Personal correspondence goes through the Dallas County Jail-TX Mail Processing Center in Florida, not the facility’s physical address.

Certain photo postcards may be allowed if they have not been tampered with and do not contain images considered obscene or violent.
Legal mail follows a separate route. Send it to the Lew Sterrett Justice Center post-office box in Dallas, not to the Florida personal-mail processing center or the facility’s physical address.

Local and national newspapers must be mailed directly from the newspaper publisher, and magazines must be shipped directly from the publisher. Books must be mailed directly to the jail by a reputable seller, such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. Use the recipient’s full name and book-in number with the Dallas post-office box shown below.

Magazines containing profanity, weapons, pornography or other adult content will be confiscated and will not be delivered. Books cannot contain excessively violent, pornographic or obscene images or content. Hardcover books are not accepted, and no more than three books may be shipped at one time. A book that fails the facility’s standards will be disposed of.
