How to Choose and Prepare for a Video Visit at Lew Sterrett Justice Center

Choose an on-site visit if you can travel to the jail and want a free, 20-minute session. Inmates may receive two on-site visits per week. Remote visits let approved family and friends connect from home by computer or video-visitation app, and the stated rules do not limit how many remote visits may be scheduled.

Remote visit costs are subject to change and are generally described as $5 to $15 for a 15- to 30-minute visit.

On-site video sessions take place at the Suzanne Kays Detention Center, South Tower, 111 West Commerce Street, Dallas, TX 75202. The stated schedule is 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. There are no video sessions on Wednesday, and the schedule is subject to change.

No more than two guests may join an on-site video session. Children under 17 are not allowed during weekday visits.

The stated remote schedule runs every day from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and is subject to change. Appointment availability depends on the incarcerated person’s schedule and whether the jail’s video kiosks are already booked. The booking system will not allow a visit at a time when the person or a kiosk is unavailable.

After you schedule a visit, the incarcerated person is notified of its date and time. The entire visit is monitored and recorded. Earbuds or a headset are optional but may improve sound quality.
