Visitation

Visiting at Statesville Correctional Center takes some prep, but it's manageable once you know the rules. Complete the on-site visit sign-up without long pauses — the system times out after 30 minutes of inactivity and can cancel your session. Arrive at least 10 minutes early. People, vehicles, and anything brought onto State property are subject to search. Adult visitors (18+) need two forms of ID, including one state-issued photo ID, plus vehicle information. First-time visitors must complete the required PVI form before arriving. Leave electronics, food, drinks, purses, and keys out of the visiting room. Free small lockers are available — you'll carry the locker key inside. No medication is allowed except properly labeled, physician-prescribed heart medication or inhalers. Dress code rules: knee-length bottoms, no see-through clothing, nothing sexually explicit.

Communication

Statesville Correctional Center uses ICSolutions for video visitation. You'll need to register with ICSolutions and schedule visits through their system. When setting up your account, enter your GTL Visitor ID to help speed approval, then complete the vendor's identity verification. Plan around strict limits: someone in custody can receive only one video visit per day and two per week — even if they're in restrictive housing. There's also a daily blackout window from 2:30pm to 4:30pm due to institutional count procedures. During visits, prohibited behavior (nudity, sexual behavior, weapons/drugs, STG graphics, unlawful activity, recording, or non-stationary video) can end or block your session.

Mail & Letters

Statesville Correctional Center scans most incoming non-privileged mail. Staff scan in color — front and back of the envelope plus each enclosed item — then upload the images as a PDF to the person's tablet bulletin board. The original paper isn't delivered. Legal or privileged mail is handled separately, but it must be clearly marked as "privileged" or "legal" and include the sender's name, title, and address. Some categories like certain publications and official government documents may follow different handling under IDOC rules. Banned mail includes anything with stains or perfume, glitter or crayon, added textures, or return-address stickers. Hardback books aren't allowed either. If someone can't access a tablet, paper photocopies may be available on request.
