Dress Code for Visiting Statesville Correctional Center: What the Rules Really Mean
Dress-code problems are one of the most preventable reasons visits get denied. Follow the rules below, and you'll have the best shot at clearing check-in without delays—or getting turned away at the door.
1
- ✓ Dresses, shorts, and skirts must extend to at least the knee.
- ✓ Clothing can’t display Security Threat Group (STG) indicators or advertise/suggest illegal activity.
- ✓ Don’t wear anything sexually explicit, offensive, or degrading.
- ✓ Don’t wear clothing that reveals the buttocks or breasts.
- ✓ Wear underwear; female visitors must wear a bra.
The dress code boils down to two concerns: safety and keeping the visiting room appropriate for a prison setting. Clothing that signals a Security Threat Group (STG) or hints at illegal activity can trigger security issues - even if that wasn't your intent. The same applies to anything sexually explicit, offensive, or degrading. If it's not appropriate for a prison environment, staff can refuse your visit.
2
- ✓ Knee-length (or longer) dresses, shorts, and skirts.
- ✓ Outfits that fully cover your buttocks and breasts.
- ✓ Wearing underwear (and a bra if you’re a female visitor).
- ✓ Shirts, hats, or other clothing with STG indicators or anything that advertises/suggests illegal activity.
- ✓ Clothing with sexually explicit, offensive, or degrading words or images.
- ✓ Anything that reveals the buttocks or breasts.
Staff can stop your visit before it starts if your clothes don't meet the rules. Under Illinois Administrative Code, the Chief Administrative Officer has authority to deny, suspend, or restrict visiting privileges for reasons including security and safety requirements, space availability, disruptive conduct, abuse of visiting privileges, or violations of state or federal laws or departmental rules. Dress-code violations fall under that "departmental rules" category. Treat your clothing choices as part of visit prep - not an afterthought.
Note: Statesville can refuse your visit if you're not dressed appropriately for a prison environment. Stick with conservative, non-offensive clothing to avoid a preventable denial.
- Bring two forms of ID - one must be a current state-issued photo ID.
- Have your vehicle information ready - you’ll be asked for it at check-in.
- Choose knee-length bottoms - dresses, shorts, and skirts need to reach at least the knee.
- Keep graphics and messaging neutral - avoid anything that could be read as an STG indicator or as advertising/suggesting illegal activity.
Don't overlook the basics: All visitors must wear underwear, and female visitors must wear a bra. Clothing that exposes the buttocks or breasts will also get your visit refused.
