What to Bring (and What to Leave Home) for Your First Visit to Statesville Correctional Center
Your first visit to Statesville Correctional Center goes smoother when you show up with the right documents—and leave everything else in your car or a locker. Here's a quick packing guide so you're not turned away at the door.
Bring two forms of identification. One must be a current state-issued photo ID. Not sure if your second ID qualifies? Pack a backup just in case - better than scrambling at check-in.
Adult visitors (18+) need to complete a Prospective Visitor's Interview form (DOC 0148) before their first visit. Legal visitors and government officials are exempt. Already approved through the electronic PVI process? You can skip the paper form. The PVI is available through IDOC in English and Spanish - filling it out ahead of time speeds up sign-in.
Arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled visit time. Check-in takes longer than you'd expect, and showing up right at your start time can put you at the back of the line.
Complete your PVI (DOC 0148) before you arrive. It's one of the easiest ways to move through front-end paperwork faster and avoid delays on your first visit.
You'll need to provide vehicle information at check-in. Have the details handy - digging through your wallet or phone slows things down.
Prohibited Items and Lockers
- ✓ Cell phones and other electronic devices (including tablets and smart watches)
- ✓ Food or drinks
- ✓ Purses, bags, or other packages
- ✓ Books or magazines
- ✓ Sunglasses
- ✓ Personal keys
- ✓ Currency (cash)
- ✓ Smoking materials
Can't take something into the Visiting Room? Small lockers are available at no charge. You can carry the key in with you. Just know the facility isn't responsible for anything stored there, so keep valuables to a minimum.
Note: All persons, vehicles, and items brought onto State property are subject to search. The simplest way to avoid problems is to bring only what you truly need for the visit.
Leave pills at home or in your car. The only exceptions: physician-prescribed heart medication (in a properly labeled container) and an asthma inhaler. If you need heart medication during your visit, staff will give you instructions.
